Lately, I’ve been into the Korean skincare hype. I was as intimidated as anyone else when I heard it includes at least 10 steps of skincare. It means at least 10 different kinds of product. My bank account did not agree either. But, then I found out that Korean skincare products are usually a lot cheaper than the products I had been using by then which are mostly European & Australian products. So, I decided to try COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid as my first dip into the Korean skincare regime.

I choose to try this one first instead of the highly raved Blackhead Power Liquid simply because I have an annoying whitehead problem, especially on my forehead. It was like I can’t have a totally clean forehead even after all the skincare regimes I’d done.

COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid Review - This hyped Korean skincare product helps to resurface your skin and removes whiteheads

COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid is the third acid treatment I try after PIXI Glow Tonic and Bravura London Salicylic Acid. The first has done an amazing job in exfoliating my skin and remove its dullness. Meanwhile, the latter which is an acid treatment disappointed me. But, that’s for another post. Now, let’s dive into this COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid.

Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycolic Acid, Niacinamide, Sodium Hydroxide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Xanthan Gum, Ethyl Hexanediol

This product has a short and simple ingredient list. Based on the CosDNA Analysis the underlined one is the only comedogenic ingredient. With acne prone score as low as 1. So, I guess it’s still safe to try.

What it claims to do

It claims to be an effective exfoliant that will eliminate dirt and dead skin cells. The two infamous acne triggers. This product also claims to battle skin issues such as closed comedones, large pores, and dull skin. The underlined one is my major skin problem. So now you know why I was so intrigued to try this product in the first place.

How I use it

First of all, this is an acid treatment and not a toner so I wouldn’t advise on using this daily. To avoid over-exfoliation on the night that I use this, I don’t use any exfoliating products. Before I use it, I cleanse my face with an oil cleanser and gel cleanser. I use a cotton pad to apply it onto my face. 2-3 is usually sufficient to swipe all over my face including the neck area and decolletage. Then I wait 10-15 minutes before applying hydrating toner.

I’ve written the complete steps of my nighttime skincare routine in my previous post. The post is in Indonesian but, please let me know if you want me to write the English version. This product is used in my third skincare routine step.

Oh and I use this only at night as the acid could make my skin more sensitive to the sun. So the morning after, always apply a sunscreen product before you leave the house.

What it did to my skin

To be honest, I didn’t expect too much from this product because of its affordable price. I know it’s wrong to judge a product based on its price because cheap doesn’t always mean bad quality. Even If I hoped that this COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid work, I wouldn’t expect a speedy result. Skincare routine is all about patience and trial and error so I wouldn’t be disappointed if this product fails me.

But, boy was I wrong! In the morning after I first use this product, I could actually see the tiny white bumps that used to be sporadic on my forehead, diminished. It was a pleasant surprise since I didn’t expect it to work that fast. But I decided to hold my excitement and refrained myself from writing the review before I actually sure of its benefits.

Now I’ve been using this for almost 3 weeks. I use it 2-3 times per week and after the second and third application, my skin started a mild purging. I guess it’s because there was still a lot of dead skin cells and dirt that needed to be resurfaced. And the purging was actually a good thing because it means that the dirt and dead skin cells are being eliminated from my skin.

How much and where to get it

For such a remarkable product, COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid only cost me Rp 190.000 (around $15). It’s rather easy to get in Indonesia because I know several online retailers are selling this product for around Rp 200.000. I got a slightly cheaper price because I bought it from @aleyska.beauty. They sell the cheapest Korean skincare that I know of.

Concluding remarks

I have never had a clear forehead ever since I came back to Indonesia from England but now my forehead is in its clearest state. The tiny and not-so-tiny whiteheads that have been bothering my forehead for a while are now gone. It used to be my main skin problem, it still is, but it’s more under control now thanks to COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid. I would most definitely repurchase when it runs out. 4 out of 5 stars.

Hope it helps 🙂

Hi I’m a newbie to Korean skincare, and still in the process of compeleting my routine so I’m still a bit confused with the order.

From what I understood with your article, I should order my products as:

    1. Oil-based cleanser (banilla co clean it zero)
    2. Water-based cleanser (cosrx good morning gel)
    3. Vitamin C (Klairs Freshly juice vit c serum)
    4. BHA (cosrx BHA blackhead power liquid) *30 min wait
    5. AHA (cosrx AHA whitehead power liquid) *PM only, *30 min wait
    6. Toner (son and park beauty water)
    7. Essence (Missha first treatment essence)
    8. Mousturizing mask (not daily – Nature Republic)
    9. Sleeping pack (Missha super aqua snail renew sleeping pack or Klairs Vitamin E)

For my AHA and BHA, I’ve never tried using it together, but curious as to where it’s supposed to be placed among my other products.

And twice a wk, I also add exfoliators in my pm routine (after cleanser)
    – Neogen green tea bio-peel gauze (on tuesdays)
    – Innisfree super volcanic jeju pore clay mask (on fridays)

I also add my sunblock in my am routine (Missha Dustless Near Skin).

Right now, I got my order scrambled with my vit c right before my vit E, and my toner right before my AHA or BHA….

    • Hello, sorry for the late reply! Welcome to the skincare craze! Lol. Hang in there, I know it could get overwhelming at first but you can always start slow, but I see you’re speeding things up in your routine there.

For your Vit C, if you’re using it together with AHA & BHA products, use it first and continue with the BHA & AHA after a decent amount of wait time (i’d say 30 mins)? Although if you’re unsure you could always rotate because some times using too many products altogether may not give you the desired result.

As for toner, people usually use it after the acid treatmet (BHA & AHA).

I urge you to find other references since I’m not an expert and listen to your skin. It takes time but they’ll tell you what combination of products they prefer 😉
      Best of luck <3
